*Well, the first thing I'd like to say is that I'm completely over that unfortunate little phase where I was writing like the characters in British TV (If you haven't watched Sherlock, do so now.) Hopefully, my writing will be much more... normal than it was in my last blog entry. Now that that's over...
Facebook is a very interesting website. It can stand in for many types of face-to-face contact. It can be used for commercial advertisement, meeting new people, and keeping in touch with old friends. But Facebook is not without its hidden perils. Within a group of close, (or not,) friends, your information may be visible, 'but,' you think, 'no one else can see my details.' WRONG! Anyone with a little skill in the area can easily view a Facebook account, even one with privacy settings. Essentially, anything you put on Facebook can be available to the world. Similar to the rest of the internet, (see my article about internet privacy: https://digital-portfolio5.webnode.com/news/net-privacy/) anything entered into Facebook will be there forever, and is never truly deleted. It is also known for being very addicting, though I wouldn't know, as I don't have Facebook, with users often wasting valuable time on their fake online lives. Seeing all these other people losing themselves and things they love is truly a testament to how seductive Facebook is. That is the main reason why I haven't gotten a Facebook account. I fear that I wouldn't have enough self-control to prevent a massive network like Facebook from taking over my life. I have too many other things that I care about. In my opinion, Facebook is a bit like a drug. People try using it because their friends are, they use it to meet new people, it's horrendously addicting, and it soon occupies your thoughts 24/7. When I was young, I sworn to myself that I would never do drugs. I will uphold my promise to myself.
